Mets get Carlos Beltran out of the deal with the RoyalsThe Mets have agreed to trade for outfielder Carlos Beltra.
MLB Network’s Buster Olney tweeted the news this morning.
According to Olney, the deal includes a $6MM mutual option that will pay Beltra $1MM in 2017.
It’s worth noting that the Royals also could move on from Beltra before the 2021 season, so it’s not a total shock that the Mets could move.
The deal was expected to be announced later today, but Olney didn’t report on the Mets plan until now.2.
Mets win the pennantThe Mets won their second division title in three years, and they also clinched their third pennant in four years.
New York finished the year with a .844 winning percentage, the second-best mark in baseball behind Cleveland.
The Mets also finished second in the NL East with a 2.7 WAR (win shares per win).
They also won the American League East with an average of 10.9 wins per season.3.
Cubs lose Carlos Carrasco to the MetsThe Cubs traded outfielder Carlos Carra to the Kansas City Royals for catcher Kyle Schwarber, outfielder J.T. Realmuto, infielder Andrew McCutchen and an international draft pick.
The Cubs’ plan is to use the draft pick to select a catcher or a pitcher.
The Royals would then use the trade to get Carrascos deal with his current team.
According the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs will get a draft pick worth $4.25MM in 2019 and $5.5MM in 2020.
This is the first major-league trade involving a catcher since the 2013 blockbuster deal with Cleveland.4.
Mets and Dodgers will get one last World SeriesThe Cubs, Dodgers and Mets will finally face one another in the World Series in 2021.
It will be the first time since 1908 that both teams will be in the finals of a major-leaguer’s championship series.
This will be a rematch of the 2009 World Series, which the Mets won with the Yankees.5.
The Braves have traded shortstop Justin Upton to the CubsThe Braves have acquired outfielder Justin Upton from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for outfielder Matt Wisler and minor league outfielder Austin Jackson.
The trade includes a cash considerations pick and a minor league player option, which gives the Braves a roster spot for 2021.
The Nationals, Brewers, Mets and Braves are all chasing the No. 2 overall pick in the draft.6.
Phillies have traded outfielder Josh Beckett to the BravesThe Phillies have agreed with the Atlanta Braves to trade outfielder Josh Benintendi to the Atlanta Falcons.
The team had been linked to the 24-year-old outfielder since July 2017.
The move is worth about $8MM over the first three years of the contract, according to ESPN.
The Phillies have a need for pitching and are expected to address that this offseason.7.
Cubs trade first baseman Jose Peraza to the MarlinsThe Cubs have traded first baseman Joey Votto to the Miami Marlins in exchange of a $2.5-million cash consideration.
The Marlins also received outfielder Matt Kemp and a third-round pick in 2020, according the New York Post.
The transaction was expected this morning, but we haven’t seen it officially announced yet.8.
Mets’ first baseman Michael Conforto will be traded to the BrewersThe Mets are expected the Braves will trade outfielder Michael Conor to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange to acquire shortstop Adalberto Mejia.
The Milwaukee deal includes $2MM in cash considerations and an outfielder with a $5MM option.
Conor is hitting just .223 with a wRC+ of 116, but his batting average of .260 ranks sixth in the majors among first basemen.
The Brewers also received pitcher Alex Meyer in the deal.9.
Yankees’ Josh Hamilton is traded to WashingtonThe Yankees are expected a trade between the Washington Nationals and Pittsburgh will occur on Wednesday, according ESPN’s Buster Alford.
The Pirates have acquired right-hander David Phelps and left-hander Justin Wilson from the Nationals in exchange.
Both players are owed $2 million this season.10.
Yankees have traded third baseman Miguel Cabrera to the CardinalsThe Yankees have acquired third baseman/outfielder Miguel Cabrera from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange with a third round pick in 2021 and a 2019 player option.
